Dubai to Fujairah by Train: UAE Minister Takes First Ride on Etihad Rail’s Passenger Service

Dubai to Fujairah by Train

The UAE’s long-awaited Etihad Rail project is taking shape, offering a glimpse into the future of travel across the country. A recent test run from Al Qudra in Dubai to Fujairah, attended by UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and senior Etihad Rail officials, showcased what passengers can expect when the service launches commercially in 2026.

Stretching 900 kilometres, the Etihad Rail network will connect 11 cities across all seven emirates — from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah on the east coast. Built to traverse the UAE’s varied landscapes, from golden deserts to the rugged Hajar Mountains, the network promises both scenic views and efficient travel.

A Major Leap in Public Transport

The Etihad Rail passenger service will complement its already operational freight network, which is projected to carry over 60 million tonnes of goods annually by 2030. This integration will not only boost the country’s logistics capabilities but also create a more balanced, sustainable transport ecosystem.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi said the new rail service represents a major step forward for the UAE’s transport sector. “The introduction of Etihad Rail’s passenger services will enhance connectivity between cities, promote sustainable economic growth, and contribute to reducing carbon emissions,” he said.

Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak described the journey as a landmark moment. “This milestone reinforces our commitment to developing a fully integrated transport network that connects communities and supports the UAE’s vision for a greener and more efficient mobility future,” he added.

Fast, Comfortable, and Sustainable Travel

Once operational, Etihad Rail’s passenger trains will carry up to 400 passengers per trip, with expected annual ridership reaching around 36.5 million by 2030. Trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, cutting down travel time significantly. For instance, the trip from Abu Dhabi to Dubai will take just 57 minutes, Abu Dhabi to Ruwais around 70 minutes, and Abu Dhabi to Fujairah approximately 105 minutes.

Strengthening Connectivity and Trade

The Etihad Rail network is not just for passengers — it’s already transforming freight transport. The route links major ports such as Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, and Ruwais Port, improving the flow of goods to key industrial and export zones. This efficient movement of cargo supports the UAE’s growing trade ambitions and aligns with the country’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

As the passenger service moves closer to launch, it stands as a symbol of the UAE’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and seamless connectivity. For residents and visitors alike, the prospect of travelling across the Emirates by train offers a new, modern, and eco-friendly way to experience the country.
